Malaya Marcelino

Biography

Malaya Marcelino was first elected as the MLA for Notre Dame in 2019.

She immigrated from the Philippines as a child with her family, who have been strong voices for improving the lives of newcomers. Marcelino served as the official opposition critic for labour and immigration, where she advocated for good jobs for newcomers and better-quality labour conditions, as well as better health care and safety for inner-city families.

Prior to becoming an MLA, Marcelino was a stay at home mom and worked part-time as a business writer and researcher for a Manitoba agribusiness firm.

She and her husband live in Winnipeg’s West End neighbourhood with their two young children.
