This year’s FPW campaign, “Smoke alarms: Make them work for you!™” strives to educate everyone about the importance of having working smoke alarms in the home.
The Manitoba Firefighters' Burn Fund, Manitoba Association of Fire Chiefs, the Manitoba government and the Office of the Fire Commissioner held a Fire Prevention Week Children's Contest to entice children across the province to take part in Fire Prevention Week for their chance to win a $200.00 Gift Card and fun fire safety material.
Children Kindergarten to Grade 4 were encourage to make a map of their home showing two ways out of every room, and then practice their plan with their family. Once done, children submitted their escape plan and the contest entry form.
In total, 345 entries were received, and the following were randomly chosen:
